Flight Sim

Welcome to the little FlightSim corner of my website. If you've ventured through the other part of my website, you'd know that I'm a pilot. But we all know that flying is just a bit expensive. When I was young, single and out on field assignments, flying was pretty easy to do. But I'm back to living a normal life and, sadly, flying has had to take a back seat. That is until recently.

I always had Microsoft's Flight Simulator loaded on my computer. I kept it updated with the latest version, but it never quenched my thirst to fly. Every couple of months, I'd fire it up for a few hours. I'd shoot a couple of approaches in the Cessna 172 and shut it down. Eh! It was okay. But I was in a world by myself, flying with this computer generated ATC that was mediocre at best.

Then I discovered VATSIM. FlightSim hasn't been the same since! To say I'm addicted is an understatement for sure. Online flying brings a whole new life to FlightSim. VATSIM is a world of virtual pilots and controllers who meet online to fly together. Some enjoy controlling as ATC. Some enjoy flying, accepting instructions from the controllers. All together, it makes for an awesome experience.

Microsoft's Flight Simulator is starting to play 2nd to X-Plane, another flight simulator. But it's hard to declare a clear winner of the two. MSFS2004 has a much wider customer base. As a result, it has better add-ons. The scenery around the airports is also still superior. But X-Plane is a better airplane simulator. It takes a competely different approach to modeling airplane behavior that results in a much more realistic flight. But the scenery around the airports is a bit lacking. I flip-flop between both simulators depending on what I want to do.

This site started as a single link on the main site. I met a friend on VATSIM. We wanted to fly together and I wanted to give him a few charts before the flight. It VERY quickly grew to what it is now.

Enjoy it for what it is. It's just my collection of FlightSim stuff that I've acquired over time.
